The two headed bull entity draws inspiration from the Lascaux Cave Painting of a Bull. The colors I chose are a reflection of the geography of Santa Barbara, the city in which my adoptive family took me in. This piece is dedicated to my adoptive mother who is a Taurus, which is astrologically represented by a bull. The inspiration for the frame is the Tepoztopilli, the common front line weaponry for the Aztec military. The affinity for aztecan/mexican/spanish culture is reflected in my everyday surroundings here in Santa Barbara. Heratonïa is an ode to family, culture, and nature.
The subject of The Work was originally part of a larger scene I created which depicted star speckled human like beings exalting to the bull entity, Sybil/Solara, on a fictional planet, Heratonïa. In the end I was drawn more to this Bull deity floating in liminal space rather than the full scene.
